🌱 Introduction

Welcome to our Jade Bonsai care guide, in this guide we will discuss the Jade bonsai (portulacaria afra), also known as the Money Tree or Lucky Plant, is a succulent species ideal for beginners. It’s drought-tolerant, easy to shape, and thrives indoors. Its thick, fleshy leaves and sturdy branches make it both attractive and resilient, requiring minimal attention.

🧪 Care Essentials
🌞 Light

Jade bonsai love plenty of light. Place them in a sunny window where they can receive at least 4–6 hours of direct sunlight per day. Outdoors, they thrive in bright, warm conditions but must be protected from frost.

💧 Watering

Water only when the soil is completely dry. Being a succulent, the Jade stores water in its leaves and can suffer from root rot if overwatered. In cooler months, water even less frequently.

🌿 Soil

Use a cactus or succulent mix with added pumice or perlite for drainage. Avoid moisture-retaining soils.

🌾 Fertilizer

Feed once a month during the growing season (spring to early autumn) using a low-nitrogen or succulent-specific fertilizer at half strength. Skip feeding during winter.

🪴 Repotting

Repot every 2–3 years in spring. Use a shallow pot with excellent drainage. Be gentle with the roots as they are fragile.

✂️ Pruning & Shaping

Trim back leggy growth to encourage branching. Allow branches to thicken before wiring, and use caution—Jade branches are brittle and can snap easily. Clip-and-grow is the preferred method.
